I discovered polymer clay in 1993 and it was love at first sight. I've been an artist all my life but before I met FIMO I worked in acrylic paint and found objects, including mural projects here in the Bay Area.

I met a man in 1996 that I married and had two kids with. He turned out to be an abusive sociopath and sucked the creative juices right out of me. I escaped from him three years ago.

In November 2008 I opened my clay tool box and decided it was time to move on.

Boy howdy, did I move.

I am in the middle of a creative renaissance. In the five or six years that I didn't work on my clay, so many new techniques and tools came out that I've been having a blast just teaching myself how to do them. I'm learning to make jewelry and am currently teaching myself wire wrapping.

I say these days that art has saved my life and my sanity. Literally.

I have HIV. I'm a long-term survivor, having been infected in 1990 or 1991. I'm doing well, have two healthy children since my diagnosis and plan to be here for a long, long time. It was polymer clay that got me interested in continuing to live in the 1990's and it is polymer clay that has restored the sense of self that my ex stole from me.

Aside from art, I spend my time reading -- mainly sci fi and Asian literature. I love movies and am an avid DVD collector. I prefer foreign film to the crap they make in the US these days. Japanese horror and Bollywood romps are two of my favorite genres. My favorite website other than this one is www.icanhascheezburger.com where I have the same user name.

I have a store on Etsy which can be found here: www.MajorMalfunction.etsy.com.
