Soar High in the World of Plants Welcome to my world @ Flickr!

I describe myself as an aspiring/budding biologist, ecologist, linguist and a photographer too. From the Leyte Island of central-eastern Philippines.

But, strictly speaking, I am just a naturalist, a striving student of the following fields:

Biology – the science of life subdivided into hierarchies based on the molecule, the cell, the organism, and the population.

Ecology - the study of the relationship of plants and animals to their physical and biological environment. The physical environment includes light and heat or solar radiation, moisture, wind, oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients in soil, water, and atmosphere. The biological environment includes organisms of the same kind as well as other plants and animals.

Linguistics - the scientific study of language especially that of Philippine languages – Tag-alog (imposed by the government as the base of the so-called Filipino national language), Winaray (academically referred to as Leyte-Samar Binisaya and conversationally called Waray-waray) and Sugbuhanon (also known as Cebuano, Sinibuhano, Bisayang Dako or Bisdak).

These are the disciplines/sciences I love to explore, even with photography!

I love taking photographs of nature – plants, animals, fungi especially at their natural habitats and ecosystems. Then, I identify them in their native/vernacular names. That’s the fusion/union/intersection of the disciplines! Hahahaha!

My camera is also that of a non-professional. Presently, I have a Kodak EasyShare CX7300. (It was given to me as a gift by my aunt from Australia). Sometimes, I borrow my friend’s Olympus Camedia C-170. How I wish to capture great pictures! So, I am wishing to receive a professional camera with higher resolution on my next birthday – probably a Sony CyberShot or a Canon PowerShot S45! Hahahaha!

I wish to be helped out in the identification of my plants, animals and fungi – those that I highlight here in this photostream. I am also wishing for new acquaintances/friends who share the same passion for living organisms and nature. Thanks for the space.

Today, on December 6, 2006, I received from flickr the following notice:

"Hey Biologist Buliklik! About your photos...

You've run into one of the limits of a free account. Your free account will only display the most recent 200 photos you've uploaded. All of your photos beyond 200 will remain hidden from view until you either delete newer photos, or upgrade to a Pro account.

None of your photos have been deleted, and if you upgrade, they'll all come back unharmed."

So, expect me not to post any new pictures, anymore as I have reached the limitation of this account. With regards to the other option to upgrade it, I cannot afford a professional account as of the moment (as the peso-dollar exchange rate is so high as a matter-of-fact a dollar is worth 50 pesos or so).

Till then, my dear friends. I am very thankful that this site paved way for me to meet new friends online.

Perhaps, I will just wait until www.flickr.com expands the free account capacity to more than 200 photos. So, I can affix more photos from our side of the world. At least through my initial 200 photos depicting our flora, fauna, fungi, indigenous Visayan/Winaray culture/heritage, human rights violation incidents and historical notes, historical monuments and sites, landscape and natural wonders – I have given a glimpse of what we have here in the Eastern Visayas region of the Republic of the Philippines. I have documented the bitter-sweet memories that I have of my native land which is often referred to by both ancient and recent writers/poets as the “Pearl of the Orient Seas” and the “Cradle of Noble Heroes”.

You can still email me though to comment and critique my photos. You can also make suggestions on how can I improve my photography like what Sue Rob did. I can also do the same to your wonderful photographs!

"Liklik is the first net friend of mine. I got a short message via flick mail box and then reviewed his photos and profiles. Actually I was very excited after I reviewd the photos. A young man with great passion to our nature. The picuture is peaceful, gentlest. He wrote his thoughts when he had taken a photo to express his feeling and let people know more about his pictures. How a warmhearted guy is!
His dream is to be a biologist, and I am sure he must be a biologist for his preciseness, his diligence, furthermore, his madness to the nature.
    Cheers! My friend!
