Hi i am Brian .and my interests are ,

One type of pipe connected railroad signaling that was used in the start of the 20th century and had lasted by the time i had grown up and went away to join the Marines.

Long ago
My brother and i , came upon a place that time forgot.. it was so different in that,, it had a special draw on both of us.

It was at Framingham center and this place was called a railroad mechanical interlocking. it was operated by a tower operator and he could move locks and switches and signals from levers inside this tower.
from the back foundation the bottom of the levers were 12 black 1 inch iron pipes set side by side and every seven feet a collection of rollers supporting these pipes till the pipe terminated at the device needed to be moved .

One lever for a signal one lever for a lock and one lever to move the switch point.

But there was one signal out of four precisely that had me fixated , one that was closest to where our parents were buying duck food. so we did not venture too far.

This small pipe connected semaphore signal was the coolest thing i ever saw . it just had this habit forming draw on me more than my brother's fixation with the taller semaphores.. but either way who like what more or better .. i can safely say i was a bit more transfixed with this thing since 49 years later i am still involving myself with it.

when my father gave me a spectacle back in 1976 which was identical to the one's that my brother and i found at Framingham center and decades later i would work on completing my signal and learning who manufactured it.

Thomas George Stiles , T.GEO.STILES CO.Arlington New Jersey.

Welcome to the T.GEO.STILES Company of Arlington NJ fan site. This site is devoted to Thomas and his work in signalling , inventor and as a business man who owned his own company.
What you will find , nowhere else.. is good documentation with details and photos of his products and his genealogy also the past companies he had worked for.

and of coarse the pipe connected low and high dwarf semaphore signals of my own and by very generous collectors who very kindly submitted information or photographs of their own signal.

The time i put in for researching is for myself but decided to include it for others that are interested in Stiles.
Again with with not much chest pounding.. i maintain that if it were not for my effort the name Stiles who he was and what he had done for railroad safety would be still there,, but hidden in the pages of conferences and reports of signalman's journals as very few people in collectors circles never mentioned or uttered the name Thomas Stiles.

it was born out of frustration that i would bring him out into the spot light as he and other contributors of railway science deserve.
The very fact all these men from England and Scotland the birthplace of railway interlocking , all if not most of these pioneers knew or worked with each other and most made journeys to America to provide knowledge of railway interlocking safety and bring it to the United States.

So this is for you Thomas... Thank you for implanting the seed of curiosity and interest of the work you have done. and i will make a great tribute page of your work.

I am interested in wire and pipe connected railway mechanical signaling.

With the unforeseen passing of my Most beloved mother. and With
this very laptop that she would have had that my brother gave to her .
Helped me find a way to deal with her passing.

since 5/9/09 no information about T.GEO.STILES CO. was on the Net.
only for a few article's and ads , books and periodical's

Thomas George Stiles , T.GEO.STILES CO. is protected material ! The collectors who contributed images and information as well as my research is copyright material
No use of any images or information will be used without my consent.

other collectors are encouraged to join and submit images and info about Stiles. you can remain nameless if you choose.

But it would be interesting to get a number of these things. and variations if they exist. so please consider to add and join.

Needless to say .. if it was made by Thomas George Stiles ill buy it. parts are always welcome.. as i am always on the lookout , for parts and whole mechanical signals.

Communication : I like communication.. sometimes its a wonderful thing and it takes two people . less than that and your deranged.

As of Mon March 09 2011.. Flickr is my main focus as i consider this the mother ship of my communications.
While i remain on Facebook its done grudgingly .

My vitriol about my hometown
While many people find the need to grow up and move out.. i resigned myself as a home body , while i do not live in my home town.. part of me weeps over the careless destruction of anything my grandparents would have grown up with.
again if i find a rare occurrence i will make a positive documentation of it ..but know full well i will point out the stupidity and make it quit clear of my distaste over stupid decision and acts that are rampant in the town of Natick.

Photography is now my main interest mostly wildlife but other things of interest like rock a billy women , retro, mild goth women , but not a fan of ink and hardware , gauges , studs etc..
