I've enjoyed photography since the days I developed black-and-white film in a darkroom I set up in a basement bathroom as a teenager. Back then, I spent a few summers doing informal children's portrait photography. Since then, photography's always been a strong interest, along with writing and various sports and outdoor activities.

I made the switch to digital about eight years ago (though I still keep my old manual Pentax!), but I only got a digital SLR within the last few years -- an Olympus E-500. I next moved to an E-3. I now shoot with a Nikon D700.

I started learning Photoshop and other post-processing techniques, learned the joy of shooting RAW, and photography once again took center stage in my life.

I had a solo show, began entering pieces in juried shows, and have begun exhibiting at arts and crafts festivals. I do fine art photography, portrait work, event work and pet photos. I particularly enjoy what I call "Domestic Wildlife" -- that is, candid and casual children's portraits. You know: catch 'em in their native habitat.

I'm also a science fiction fan, and a Star Trek fan. I have a separate Flickr account for my Star Trek related photos, under the name PrelocAndKanar.
