I work at a university in the midwest as a humanities professor, and love my job because I get to discuss fascinating ideas with really interesting students. I can't believe I get paid to do this, sometimes. Photography is my creative passion, and I find that art fulfills me more than scholarship does. Anyone reading this will surely say, "well no duh!". I'm generally a happy guy, but for some reason art allows me to connect to the darker parts of existence. It's not something I dwell on, but it just seems to come out in my photography. So be it.

My favorite photographs have some blur, some mystery, some poetry in them. I like Emily Dickinson's call to "tell all the truth, but tell it slant" and Richard Avedon's comment that "all photographs are accurate. None of them is the truth." Keith Carter is probably my favorite living photographer.
