Fifi 1968's photostream
|

I am an amateur photographer in my early forties who loves taking pictures of wildlife and nature, and I have a particular interest in bird photography.
My equipment consists of a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi (aka EOS 450D), along with a Tamron 70-300mm telephoto and macro lens, and my wonderful new acquisition, the Canon 100-400mm, as well as my trusty point-and-shoot Panasonic Lumix FZ28, which has phenomenal zoom!
As someone relatively new to photography, I hugely value any advice, feedback and constructive criticism. I have a fabulous group of contacts and friends who provide this and I appreciate it very much.
I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and have been known to stand rooted to the spot for up to two hours waiting for the perfect shot, which as wildlife photographers in particular will understand, often never happens! However all the effort and perseverance is worthwhile on the occasions that it does happen...
I don't really edit my images, except for cropping, framing and the occasional tweaks of saturation/exposure. Each to their own, but I'm not particularly a fan of Photoshop, especially where wildlife and nature photography is concerned, as in my opinion nature should be preserved in the way that God intended, not processed often beyond recognition...having said this, this is a personal opinion in relation to my own work. I am constantly in awe of the processing skills of many of my contacts, and I'm not saying I would never try it!
It is the quality of my contacts which matters to me, not the quantity, and I am therefore only interested in contacts with whom I have regular interaction.I enjoy looking at my contacts' work, always look beyond their last upload and spend a lot of time making comments, so I therefore expect my efforts to be reciprocated. I am reasonable up to a point though, as I realise that we all have busy lives...
Please don't add me as a contact unless you are willing to interact with me and comment regularly on my work, and I do monitor this closely. I am not interested in anyone who makes me one of a hugely unsustainable number of contacts, who is looking for kudos for their own work but never reciprocates. I am in Flickr to make friends, share photos and partake of regular dialogue and constructive, genuine comments. Please don't merely copy and paste comments... if you don't have the time or can't be bothered making a personal comment, I would rather you didn't comment at all. I generally limit my contacts to around 150, so please don't be offended if you make me a contact and I don't immediately reciprocate, as I do regularly review my contacts. I try to have a realistically manageable number of contacts to keep Flickr on a more personal level. If you find you are no longer one of my contacts please don't be offended... it is probably because you rarely visited and I was using too much time giving comments to people who hardly ever reciprocated! It is not meant as a personal insult. Reading this back, I sound like a dragon, but I'm really a very nice person, honestly, I just like fair play!
As much as possible, I try to keep up with with activity on my photos, but I'm sorry, I don't usually reply to comments as there really aren't enough hours in the day!
I visit friends and contacts' photos and groups that interest me, I don’t reply to photos sent to me via Flickrmail.
While I really appreciate every single comment made on my stream, I do not participate in groups requiring more than 3 comments per posting. It doesn't seem very fair to me, and I'm sorry but I just don't have the time...
To all my Flickr friends and contacts, a huge thank you for taking the time to look at and comment on my work...you are a wonderful group of people, and I appreciate you all so very much! :-) xx

"Oh my! I have been meaning to write a testimonial to this beautiful and wonderful friend for some time now. I have been blessed by Fiona's talent and gifts tremendously. She is all that has been written about her, and more. She is hardworking and hard on herself, as she takes perfection to that level of excellence in all her shots. She does indeed, take time to comment and they are always upon not only the picture, but also on what was said about it, or why you posted it.
Her photography is pure pleasure to see and be inspired by. She truly could do this for a living, but I believe she enjoys the pure pleasure of capturing the image she was going for, and allowing others to bask in its ray of life. Fiona, you are such a dear friend to me. I am so glad we met on Flickr, and even though an ocean is between us, our friendship is one that will continue, because our hearts have connected and we have become family. Thank you my friend!"11th March, 2010

"Just 5 minutes on Fiona's photostream and I'm smiling with pleasure at her beautiful nature photography.
Somehow, and I haven't got it figured out yet, she has the ability to be so in tune with the wildlife that she's shooting that they relax and exhibit natural behaviors which she deftly captures with her trusty camera. They all seem to want to "talk" to her with great candor. Amazing!
Take a moment and browse Fiona's beautiful collection of images and you'll know what I mean."11th March, 2010

"fiona was one of my first contacts when I joined flickr and has undoubtedly been one of my most supportive, her interest and encouragment in my own photographs has always felt genuine and not motivated by a comment trade-off.
fiona's photos express a passion and positivity about life and some of it's most pleasing aestetics with real panache. her images are not in any way pretentious but have the abililty to both impress technically and to move emotionally - for me what photography is all about.
if you are yet to browse fiona's stream then you are in for a treat as I can not recommend it highly enough.
thanks for being a great contact fiona."11th December, 2009

MommaD photos says:
"This testimonial is something that I've been meaning to write for some time now - and lately the absence of new photos from her has made me finally write this now.
Fiona's photostream has been a varied one, with lots of well thought out shots and a great story behind each shot she posts. No one does so with such emotion and passion as Fiona.
She's been such a great Flickr friend to me - even though we live oceans apart - I feel as though there's a part of her I know well. Even during her break from Flickr posting, she takes the time to search her contact's streams and continues to contribute her opinions about the shots and encouragement - which I have come to look forward to.
Fiona, take the time you need to rejuvenate your photographic inspirations - but know that we all miss you and your photostream dearly! Thanks you for your comments and I look forward to your (hopeful) eventual return."31st October, 2009

"Since Fiona has bravely posted a self portrait, I will bravely write her a testimonial. The only thing wicked about Fifi is her photographs, lol. I love them ~ i love how she sees the beauty in the world around her, and shares it with the rest of us. Her sense of humor and witty notes slay me. She is a loyal and faithful friend and who else would bake a bunny cake for their adorable fur niece? A heart as big as the ocean, and a wonderful vision to capture loveliness. I'm lucky to know her, and happy to have her and her pics in my little corner of existence."

"Take a trip through Fiona's photostream. You will not be disappointed. She displays a very eclectic, aesthetic group of images that are infused with an amazing understanding of color, composition and light. All this is from a woman who insists that she took up photography last year! Her obvious love of animals and a talented eye combined with humor and a generousity toward her Flickr friends make her one of my most valued contacts. Keep them coming, Fiona. I learn from your art."
