I have been enjoying photography for about 40 years, but here's what's changed in the past few years:

- received my first digital camera - unlimited shots possible
- earned my CT Master Gardener certification - new ways of seeing nature
- joined Flickr - exposure to the work of many fine photographers
- received my second digital camera - more features, better quality shots
- began using Picasa to do post-processing

My primary photography interest is capturing the natural world. Through volunteer work I attempt to encourage others to appreciate our local flora and fauna and to choose native plants to sustain native wildlife. My photographs and descriptions are intended to convey that native is desirable and beautiful.

Besides that, here's what I love:

- walking through a meadow and spying a tiny, beautiful something - with my camera in hand, there is a different way of looking at the world
- looking through my viewfinder and imagining my shot - and then imagining what my camera is seeing, since sometimes my camera sees differently than I do, which turns us into photography buddies!
- loading a photo session to my computer, initially feeling disappointed, and then finding that a few tweaks can turn a so-so photo into a good one

At its best, being outdoors with my camera is a type of meditation. Concerns of the day are forgotten while I relax and concentrate simply on what is right in front of me.

Recently: bought my first digital SLR on Black Friday 2011 and am slowly learning how to use it. Now I can take shots that previously I would never have attempted. Having fun!
