I am originally from Macclesfield, Cheshire, England. 16 years ago I emigrated to live on Achill island full-time, a decision I have never regretted it - in fact it has been fabulous.

My interest in photography began with polaroids and a 110 Halina which I took family snaps with for a few years back in the '70s. I purchased my first SLR - a Canon AV-1 - in 1980 for a holiday trip to Ireland - From then on I was hooked.

After a few years I did the NYI Photography course, joined the Guild of UK Wedding Photographers and became a semi-pro wedding photographer using Nikon Fms and a medium format Mamiya C330. However, my personal work was very much landscape and portraiture, much of it black and white. I still have a very strong love of available light b&w photography whether it be landscape, street, or portraiture.

In 2004 I decided to go digital, and wouldn't go back now as I'm having too much fun! Currently using a Nikon D5000 and trying to improve all aspects of my photography, including street photography* If anyone sees their photo and isn't happy with it being shown don't hesitate to contact me and I will remove it immediately.

My Landscape photographs are about my emotional response to natural landscape. Ultimately, I am trying to capture impermanence. Beauty is impermanent and fleeting and lives in the same place as poetry, It lives in the realm of spirit and is a mystery. What i try to do is capture the visual poetry in the landscape, the place where design and composition become charged with mood and atmosphere to create an emotional response in the viewer. I want to go deeper into my craft and myself to discover new and ever more meaningful compositions. many locations merit extensive exploration and this extends naturally into many pictures or series.

There is plenty of inspiration here on flickr. I have made so many good friends and seen so many fabulous images from all over the world in the 2 years I've been a member. Being involved with flickr has become an inspiring and positive growth experience for me.

My present equipment is:

A Panansonic Lumix TZ10 on which I find the 25 - 300mm Leica zoom really useful, especially the wide end for street photography.

A Nikon D5000 which I use mostly for landscapes.
