About me: I was born and raised in East Tennessee. I am a veteran of the United States Army, I've spent several years as a newspaper reporter both in the military and at the Daily Post-Athenian in Athens, Tenn. and the Monroe County Advocate & Democrat in Sweetwater, Tenn.

I am currently studying anthropology (concentrating on archaeology) and linguistics at East Tennessee State University.

My hobbies (besides photography) include hiking, reading, star-gazing, exploring, and other similar activities.

About my photography: My photography is an extension of my wanderlust, and helps makes my incessant meandering that much more meaningful.

My pictures mostly focus on documenting natural sights and locations of significant local historical/cultural importance with a smattering of experimental/artsy photos I take as the the spirit moves me.

I see my photography as a hobby more than any sort of professional undertaking, but I am constantly tying to improve the pictures I take and trying new approaches.

About using my photos: Unless otherwise noted on the picture info I retain the rights to all my photos. However, if you'd like to use them for something please just contact me and I'll be happy to provide consent.

About my geotagging: Because a lot of my photos are either in a National Forest, State Park, or military reservation (things that don't show up on Yahoo Maps) I've had to use my best guess to tag them. As such, any geotagged photo should be considered as placed in an approximate area and not as an exact location.

    Bravo Six Niner Delta says:

"Jacob's photos are quite polished given his relative newness to photography, and he makes images using a unique combination of whimsy and seriousness. His photography betrays a gentle ambition, as he periodically upgrades to new equipment, experiments with new techniques and odd bits of improvised picture-making gear, and roams far afield in search of inspiring and meaningful subject matter. Unique is his work, and unique is the experience of viewing it."
