Second Harvest Japan (2HJ) is the first incorporated food bank in Japan.

Food banking is a systematic way to collect food donations and redistribute them to those in need and the agencies that serve them.

Our conservative estimates are that over 650,000 people lack food security: access to enough safe, nutritious food in a socially acceptable manner. The current poverty rate stands at 15.3%, which means almost 20 million live below the poverty line.

2HJ has two primary mandates: to provide food to those in need and to promote food banking in Japan. To carry out these mandates 2HJ engages in four areas of activities.

a) Hot Meal Program
b) Harvest Pantry
c) Food Banking
d) Advocacy and Development
