I’m Kyle MacRae.
I’m 45 - and I’m still alive.
Yay! That’s something to celebrate. But I’ve also spent much of the past year immersed in the most profound midlife crisis. That’s been a complete pain in the arse. It still is.
So I’ve decided to do something about it. Something positive. Something a bit daft, maybe, and possibly even dangerous. But something. In fact, many things.
Basically I’m fed up worrying about getting old and ending up skint, a broken-down, drug-addicted alcoholic living alone in a poxy bedsit somewher… whoa! Stop!
See the problem? Midlife shouldn’t be a ‘crisis’. That’s an over-reaction. Ok, so it’s not exactly an opportunity either - I’d rather be 25 or 35 with a few more years ahead of me and a bit more spunk left in my system - but if nothing else it has to be a chance to go off the rails in some style. A time for fun!
And also a time to re-evaluate and maybe - just maybe - feel better about myself and figure out where I’m heading. If anywhere.
One way or abother, it’s an important time. A decisive time. A crunch time. So let’s call it a crunch rather than a crisis.
The Midlife Crunch
I’m going to explore all some of the things it’s possible to do at 45 and I’m going to do all lots of the things I’ve always wanted to do, or at least contemplated doing. Like getting a tattoo. Visiting a lap dancing club. Playing my guitar on stage and recording a song. Scaring myself shitless jumping out of a plane.
And, er, doing something really worthwhile because at this time in my life I can. But what, exactly? Maybe you can tell me here. Of course, there are some things I won’t be doing personally - unless Mrs M has a radical change of heart…
But it’s also about finding about your midlife crisis. Having one? Had one? Contemplating one? ;-)
