First, I'm a beginner.

I'm moving to the mountains of NW Arkansas (some wilderness) in the fall of 2011. Im working on the house and getting ready to move. When there, I will have a chance to photograph black bears, many bobcats, coyotes, etc. and many species of birds not found here (painted buntings, scissor tail flycatchers, etc.), 350 miles northeast; in eastern Missouri.

I love nature photography. Have taken River and Bird pictures on and off, for about 10 years, but am still a beginner and probably will always be. I am a real Canon fan and use a 1DS MK II, a 7D, 1D mark IIN, and a 50D. I have the following long lenses; Canon 600L f/4 IS, Canon 300L f/2.8 IS. Also, a 1.4TC and a 2.0 TC and extension tubes, which I inherited from my sister. I recently purchased a Canon 400 DO IS and use it with a Canon 1.4TC all the time. This is my favorite lens as I can carry it all day long and is a 640mm f/5.6 with the 7D and ~900mm f/8 with the 1.4TC addition.

The 7D (because of its auto-focus and crop sensor) is now the camera I use most; 50D is backup. I also use sometimes a Canon 1Ds Mark II, and a Canon 5D Mark II.

I have mostly used the 7D with the Canon 400 f/5.6 L on well lighted days, and the Canon 400 f/4 DO IS with a 1.4 TC on all other occasions. I do use the 7D with the Canon 600 f/4 with a 1.4 TC on long stationary shots but absolutely need a gimbal mounted tripod.

I enjoy bird photography enough, to go early or later 4-5 days a week with lots of hiking and shooting from my car window. I have been doing this for about 20 months (July 2010). I am primarily interested in migratory songbirds, and our native winter species here in Missouri.
