My name is Jon Wells, I am 28 and I am a professional sportsman. I play rugby league for Harlequins RL in the Rugby Super League. This is not to be confused with playing for Harlequins RU in the Rugby Premiership, which I don't.

I'm fairly new to photography but am pretty keen on honing my skills. I would say I am an enthusiastic hobbyist photographer; I take pictures for fun and for personal satisfaction - of which, for some of my shots at least, there is a lot. After pretending I had the requisite finger-picking skills and patience to master the guitar, pretending I had the creative ability and patience to try my hand at short-stories and various other half-baked ways of spending my time, I found myself in a branch of Jessops holding a Canon EOS 300D and not knowing anything about it.

As a rugby player with lots of free time and enough conscience to realise that it would be wasteful - rude even - to spend all of my down-time playing the Playstation and watching DVDs, being in Jessops (hitherto an alien environment) holding a fancy camera (with lots of technical stuff I had no idea about but wanted to know about) was a bit of an enlightenment really. I'd always wanted to 'get into' something, something rewarding and creative, and here it is.

The beauty of photography for me is that, unlike other creative media, the awesome picture/scene/so on is by definition already out there; and it is the photographers' challenge to capture it - in all senses of the word. To capture the 'feeling' of a particular landscape or cityscape (my current favourtie areas of study) is the challenge. Please feel free to comment on my pictures on how I'm doing in that respect.

Cheers
