Salamander Springs Farm is an organic farm designed and managed according to permaculture principles. Susana Lein produces grains (popcorn, cornmeal, wheat) and dry beans (pinto, black turtle, crowder & black-eyed peas), as well as wide range of vegetables (major vegetable crops are potatoes, onions, garlic, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, winter squash & pumpkins), fruits, nuts, herbs & flowers, without tillage or mechanization or purchased fertilizers.

In 2002 the mostly forested land of Salamander Springs Farm had no infrastructure; since then, Susana Lein has built a gravity feed spring water system and rainwater catchment systems, built a house and farm buildings of local/on-farm lumber, salvage and local natural building materials such as clay, lime, sand and straw. Salamander Springs Farm now has more than 300 species of annuals crops, herbs, flowers, perennials, fruit and nut trees, berries, forest foods and medicinals. Crops and farm products are sold through local farmers' markets, stores, as well as online. The farm is completely off-grid, using a small solar electric system, sawdust compost toilet and grey-water system, passive solar and wood heat, and gravity-fed spring water from the forest watershed.
