SOS Sahel UK is a charity dedicated to finding lasting solutions to the poverty and vulnerability experienced by millions of people across the dry lands of the Sahel Region (West to East Africa).
Approximately 300 million people live across the Sahel Region, a fifth of whom are pastoralists (people who herd animals over drought-prone areas). They live in areas that are often remote from government, markets and services and prone to insecurity. Their neglect increases their vulnerability to climate change, yet their resilience in such a hostile environment suggests that with the right support they could adapt well to future pressures and opportunities.
Our work focuses on supporting both nomadic pastoralists and settled farmers to improve the natural resource base they rely upon and strengthen their traditional systems of management cooperation in order build peace.
Though we have our own website (www.sahel.org.uk), we have set up this flickr account to share photos of our work in Africa and our events in the UK more widely and to encourage interaction and support.
Thanks for listening.
