  "Modigliani came from the city in which Giovanni was born and still lives- his beloved Livorno, for some strange reason called Leghorn by English speakers. LIke Modigliani, Giovanni (Giò to his friends) is also an artist. He long ago eschewed the use oil in his art favouring sketching with a pencil. The sketches are by no means rough. They are as punctilious and as detailed as any masters'. Cartoons for oil painting they are not although they could very well be. Giò had other things to do besides dedicating his life to the canvas. Not often enough are we regaled with one of his recent pencil drawing on flickr. His flickr art, enjoyed and favoured by hundreds, is all taken from the web, "tutto dalla rete, fake", as he himself tells us in Italian.
  Giovanni is a scavenger of images on the web. His art is not a simple "objet trouvé" but "objects trouvés". The images he scavenges are not art en soi, but integral parts of what constitutes the DNA of his art, which I dare define as surrealist, at times. I would also dare to suggest the term "philosophical art" "human art" to describe his creative efforts. Most of the time the composite images are more than eloquent in communicating their meaning, but the artist interpolates his own borrowed quotes by famous names, which appear as a footnote to each one of his artistic endeavours.
  His art can be enjoyed on many levels, not only the philosophical/metaphysical one. The images come from us and are returned to us in well ordered, technically skilled and meaningful compositions. And the images are vivid; the colours, red being quite prominent in his palette, fully saturated, and at times appearing along with black and white images.
  His art covers quite a full spectrum of emotions and states of mind. His imagery is fraught with earthly and existential concerns. At times he includes his flickr friends in a composition to lend familiarity and earthiness. At other times, however, he is Bosch, he is Dalì, he is De Chirico, he is Magritte.
  And then there is the sea, a definite leitmotif of his art. His use of the sea is very much like Montale's (Nobel prize winning Italian poet from Genoa). Giovanni's sea is filled with wondrous creatures: solely marine, amphibian and beings that share both earthly and marine essences. Some are cartoon-like and funny, others instil fear, sounding simultaneously our conscious and subconscious. There are fish, seagulls, frogs, sea turtles, egrets, swans, pelicans. These are conscious projections. Subconsciously they are muted flapping of wings, oneiric sounds, inchoate or suppressed memories, forgotten fears, lost loves. On earth we continually encounter wondrous beings of fertile fecundity, earth mothers, monstrous entities, whale like women and those with pear shaped derrières- wearing red usually, which is also the colour of his frequently used umbrellas, a modest hope against adversity. The menagerie continues in his depiction of the land where sea creatures are also present. In one piece the artist features the author drying fish, lobster, eels and an octopus along with red chilli peppers on a clothesline, waiting to make "caciucco", a fish stew typical of Livorno. Another 'landed' fish which particularly stands out is a goldfish emitting hearts of love as it lies languishing on a lightbulb, magically alight with no visible source of power, except, perhaps the ardor of the little fish.
  
  King of the roost in the earthly menagerie is the Leghorn chicken, which is in many ways is the 'national' bird of Livorno, so to speak. Here is what Wikipedia says about it: The Leghorn … or Livornese, is a breed of chicken originating in Tuscany, in central Italy. Birds were first exported to North America in 1828 from the port city of Livorno,[1] on the western coast of Tuscany. They were initially called "Italians", but by 1865 the breed was known as "Leghorn", the traditional anglicisation of "Livorno".
  
  The chicken reigns supreme, I was about to say, but that's the subject of another story in the art of Giovanni Ambrosioni."

  "Giovanni Ambrosioni, per gli amici Giò, ha scritto un testimonial che comprende tutti i componenti della famiglia dei Grulli di cui faccio parte anch’io, anche se non utilizzo il programma Photoshop e questo mi onora, però non ha scritto nulla di se.
  Cercherò di esternare i miei sentimenti nei suoi confronti che sono; di profonda stima, rispetto e simpatia. Per caso l’ho incontrato su flickr grazie ad altri miei amici contatti comuni ad entrambi.
  Da subito mi ha colpito la sua GRANDE FANTASIA, sa creare opere stupende con precisione e grande capacità di accostamento con particolari estrapolati su flickr, le sue opere vanno viste ingrandite per cogliere tutti i particolari che sono ogni volta sorprendenti, anche il più piccolo è postato con grande senso critico e perfezione MANIACALE.
  Starei ore ad osservare le sue opere, perché vanno interpretate viste e riviste e ogni volta scopro sempre un piccolo particolare che mi era sfuggito la volta precedente.
  E’ un po’ introverso,( spero che accetti questo testimonial e lo renda pubblico) non si sbilancia molto nelle esternazioni, però attraverso le sue opere si può capire la sua grande autoironia, l’amore per la natura, la serietà come regola di vita e tante altre qualità, anche se lui le vorrebbe tenere celate, ma come tutti quelli che dipingono, che creano opere di Photoshop e scrivono poesie si raccontano, dipende dalla sensibilità di chi osserva le sue opere carpire e interpretare ciò che lui esprime.
  Se poi parliamo della sua maestria nel’usare la matita , ancora di più lo apprezzo come VERO ARTISTA a tutto tondo, è un peccato che non dia priorità a questa sua apprezzabile e grande qualità ARTISTICA.
  Lo ringrazio per tutti i sorrisi che mi ha regalato in questo periodo, e spero con gioia che continui a regalarli a tutti noi, ogni giorno donandoci una parte di se.

  Mi risponde: "Roberto, sono MOLTO contento per il pensiero e ne sono felice se fatto da amico. Comunque non lo accetto; non perchè è breve...anzi; ma solo perchè tu sai perfettamente che cosa sia un ARTISTA e io sono lontano anni luce dall'esserlo. La mia definizione reale è "pescatore e manipolatore di immagini".

  "Dal primo istante in cui ho cominciato a curiosare tra i vari disegnatori ed artisti su flickr, sono stata rapita dalle opere di Giovanni. Non credo che un artista si giudichi dalla fama (che è frutto di fortunate circostanze) ma dal SENSO che si coglie nei suoi lavori. Allora Giovanni è un grande artista ovunque si muova: dai collages dal gusto magrittiano a quelli " trasgressivi" a forti colori come lo stupendo "senza freni", ai disegni a matita poetici come "la 500 gialla", alla satira come "la chiesa si rinnova".... il resto l'ha già detto Pietro. Io aggiungo solo che in gran parte delle sue opere ci trovo un senso universale, assoluto, imprescindibile.... altre volte scherza con le immagini e riesce a divertire.... Allora buona continuazione!"

  "su Flickr ho trovato un amico ,Giovanni , una persona con cui scambio commenti all'insegna di una sana ironia e con spirito goliardico.
  Da questo giovanotto c'è sempre d'aspettarsi una sorpresa che quotidianamente non tradisce l'attesa.
  Dalla sua fantasia scaturiscono immagini surreali che spingono l'osservatore a porsi domande sul loro sfuggente significato ,il che induce a soffermarsi sull'opera per cercarne una razionale interpretazione che non potrà che essere soggettiva.
  Inoltre con la sua padronanza del disegno ed il sicuro tratto della sua matita ci fa omaggio di immagini dove l'esasperata ricerca della prospettiva produce un sorprendente effetto grandangolo .
  ora direi che la sviolinata si può esaurire con quanto detto ...forza Giò....riprendi il lavoro....A noi il piacere dello spettacolo !"
