I am an animal lover and animal photography nut ! Nothing gives me more pleasure than hanging around a zoo, wildlife park or animal sanctuary spening time with the animals that reside there. My kit is a canon 7d with a 70-200 2.8 lens and that is about it ! It only goes to show that a true affinity for animals and an artistic eye are all that are really needed to catch "That decisive moment" (although a camera comes in handy, too!).
