Sharon Zappha Barfoot is a writer/illustrator and art therapist. She draws from experience in adult education, public relations, theatre, and the arts. Sharons academic studies include Fine Arts, Philosophy, Comparative Religion Womens Studies and Adult Education at the University of Western Ontario, University of Michigan and St. Francis Xavier University. Upon completion of these studies she taught creative arts courses at the University of Western Ontario and Fanshawe College in London Ontario. Sharons own spiritual quest has taken her to such places as Guatemala, Mexico, England, Ireland, Wales, India, China and Europe as well as extensive travel in North America. Exposure to various cultures combined with theatre experience led Sharon to explore ritual and ceremony in depth and provided her with the incentive to make this an intrinsic part of her own reality. In 1980, she had formulated a method of sharing her wealth of transformational studies, the culmination and blending of her learning experiences, into a workshop format. She now uses these workshops in her capacity as an art therapist and creative writer.

Sharon's paintings are inspired by her desire to learn to be present in the moment and paint from an instinctive internal source rather than from external references. She paints in an intuitive, improvisational way where the composition and surface dictate how to proceed. Abstraction is used in her work to inspire meanings and feelings unique to the individual viewing her work.

"Zappha has been such an inspiration to me. Every new painting from her gives me so much pleasure to look at and I wish I could see all her work live. Without her comment on my new work that I upload here on flickr, it feels incomplete somehow.
Zaph your doing a great job with your art and your warmth. Though very far away but I feel the warmth of your friendship very close to my heart."

    M.A. Wakeley says:

"It has not been long since I have had the pleasure of being zappha's friend but within this short span of time she has enriched my life through her art and genuine caring as an individual. The depth of her character comes through beautifully in her painting, each one taking us further down a path of discovery. For me, great art takes the viewer on a journey to the deeper part of ourselves. I find myself looking forward to seeing what she will offer next so that I can continue on my personal adventure through her work. Take the time to really see zappha's paintings. You will be better for it."
