My name is Andrew

I'm 26. I play drums in a band called Adam & Evil. I also play guitar and bass.
I was born here:

And now I live here:

I went to university here:

I have a parrot named Terrance:

I had a dog named Holly, who passed away in 2010:

I also like to catch fish:

And obviously, take pictures:

I've been taking pictures since I was probably 8 or 9 years old, although I didn't really get serious about it until 2005 or so. I have some pictures that I'm very proud of, but there's still a lot I'd like to learn! For the first few years of my Flickr membership, I didn't use any editing programs, but in the early months of 2009 I started editing pics regularly, and nowadays I tweak almost all of them. However, I believe that good composition, creativity, patience and planning are ultimately more important to photography than the ability to edit pictures after they've been taken. Last summer (2010), I got a few awesome pictures of a wild seal on a beach by moving carefully, crouching behind rocks and skidding forward on my belly, until I got close enough, and it really paid off!

I bought a Canon Rebel XSi on July 12th, 2008, and I'm enjoying its advantages. I'm way behind on my uploading, but I do have a ton of unreleased pictures for you to see in the future!

Camera History:

- July 2008 to present: Canon Rebel XSi (450D). The first camera I bought myself; where this camera outshines my previous cameras is in its ability to focus on one thing and blur the background nicely. Logically it should be better than my previous cameras in all respects, but I haven't yet figured out how to master it. Anyway, I've gotten some really great shots with this camera, and I'm unlikely to retire this one anytime soon, since I can buy different lenses for it. I currently use an EF-S 18-55mm, an EF-S 55-250mm, and a Sigma EX DG 50mm 2.8 Macro. I also just bought a Canon Speedlite 430 EX II on October 24th.
- December 2006 to July 2008: Canon PowerShot S3 IS. This camera was a step up from my previous one; it had twice the megapixels and very impressive zoom and macro capabilities. The quality of my shots improved during the time I used the S3 IS; partly because I started putting more effort into taking better pictures. I achieved a level of control with this camera that I haven't yet been able to do with my Rebel. I felt guilty because it was a gift, but I retired this camera at the top of its game, solely because I needed the visual sharpness that I thought only an SLR could deliver. Otherwise it never let me down.
- December 2003 to December 2006: Canon PowerShot SD100. This was my first digital camera, and this is when I started taking LOTS of pictures. The first 11.5 pages of my photostream are pictures from this camera. It was probably the most convenient of my cameras since I could fit it in my pocket! Toward the end of this period I got big into light painting pictures, which I happened upon by accident, and you can see some of them on Flickr.
- Late 1990s - December 2003: Kodak Advantix T500. I'm thinking I got this camera for Christmas of 1999. This was a decent little camera; it's what I used on my trip to Hawaii and Japan, and also to St. Pierre, Granite Canal, and elsewhere around Newfoundland. I've posted around 18 of these pics on Flickr. It's an APS camera.
- Mid-1990s - Late 1990s: Kodak Star 110. This was my first camera, given to me by my grandparents when I was about 9 years old. I think it took 110 film. I enjoyed it, I remember dropping it on the shore near a pond while taking pictures of ducks, and I don't know where most of my pictures from this camera are gone. However, I have uploaded a few of them.

"Oh, Andrew..
Not only a sweetie, but talented.
I don't recall one day, that I haven't read, or looked at a picture, or comment of his that hasn't made me laugh, or smile, since I came across his wonderful stream. :D"16th May, 2011

"Well well, what do we have here, it's a long overdue testimonial for LoopyLoops.
I'm not sure where to start because there are a lot of things that make Loops a fantastic Flickr contact.
I guess the best place to start would be his photography.. Harr...:P
His stream is so diverse, you never know what you'll get from one day to the next. It might be a superb aeroplane photo, or one of his awesome macros, which are my personal favourites.
Aside from the photography, his descriptions are always interesting to read, and often evoke a discussion in the comments. I love the links to personality tests, as self discovery is obviously something we have in common.
He's also very consistent in commenting on and showing appreciation for my photos even though we, for the most part, have differing styles.
I like the photoshop-the-frick-outta-things style, and Loopy's is more natural.
But one day I will force him to use 50 layer masks :P Just for funzees.
Perhaps the same day we autotune ourselves a nice little Beatles melody....:P
Anyway, this is far too gushingly nice for me...quick do something stupid....urr...*shrug*"18th April, 2011
