Skeleton Marie's photostream |

Hello. My name is Sheila Marie. I am 22 years old now. Struggling with the transition from youth to adulthood. Lacking creativity because of this awkward middle ground. Unlike most of the famous 15 year olds here on flickr, who shoot magazine worthy photographs already, I got my start late in comparison and am still struggling to match their talent.
My first camera was a Game Boy Camera (hah) which I acquired when I was 11. All I was interested in shooting back then was my Beanie Babies. Next I got a Polaroid and much of the same occurred. I was too busy trying to be a kid rather than trying to be an artist. Plus, there was no internet to hop on to to get inspiration. The only thing I used my computer for back then was to play Oregon Trail.
It wasn't until age 16 when I got my first digital camera, and so there the growth began. I literally photographed everything in my world trying to find out what was beautiful and what was not. Turns out, none of my photographs were profound or beautiful though. But then at age 17 I got a 35mm Ricoh camera to take Photo 1 in school with, and my photos got better and better until I truly deemed myself as a photographer and until I realized that I loved taking pictures of myself.
Since then it has been slow sailing trying to make a name for myself on flickr. The five years spent photographing myself have been all about discovery and curiosity. I learned so much about myself in this time, and I have learned to love myself despite my unoriginal beauty and flaws. And, I guess I just wanted to write this rant to say that everyone progresses at different rates and at times I deeply doubt my abilities and I compare myself to all of these young stars and come out feeling worthless. I am still growing though, and even though I have hit a small wall, I will climb it and continue growing for the rest of my life.
So, here I am, here is my work. Take me or leave me. I am trying so hard to do this for myself but encouragement helps and your words mean so much to me, always.
Thank you, everyone.

jtbrennan says:
"Sheila is my favourite person on Flickr. She's got this honesty in her work and in her words which you just don't find elsewhere. Her work is real and it's fun and it's enchanting and it's beautiful. I find myself going back time and time again just to gaze, as it feels familiar. She opens up her world through her work and we get lucky vicarious glimpses. And every time, it's something new and incredible."

"I'd like to tell you something... It's because of your beautiful work I think you're incredible. I feel touched by your images and they always transport me to a possible universe ruled by intimacy. You can't even imagine how deep your images reach my fibers. Sometimes I feel like I read some hidden message behind those scenes where the lighting plays such a key role to describe your inner universe which I find unique, indeed. You're so talented, you... Beautiful creature. I truly love your work."

Moy Triana says:
"Sheila Marie is a sweet artist with a deep introspective of her own life projected in different angles, self portraits mostly reflect an inside of this artistic mind on a daily basis life which compromises all of what we know as common...her radical and intense expressions captivate us slowly , wanting for more and more...
Not only visual but also in words she compromise us to join her life by her photos and poetry.
Truly a great example of a modern insight of a simple but yet complicated photographer"22nd April, 2009
