I was born in 1950 in Merseyside but when I was 16 I joined the RAF as an engineer. You couldn't tell by my accent now that I am a 'Scouser'. I guess I have become cosmopolitan! I have recently retired (early) and am trying to fulfill a lifetime ambition to become a half way decent photographer.

I love photos, not only taking them but looking at them. Mine or others, I don't mind. My favourites are landscapes because I consider this earth to be a beautiful place.

Since leaving Liverpool I have had the benefit of living in South Wales for almost 30 of the 40 years since and have not looked back. Wales is a beautiful place, I know I have walked much of it. It's a shame more people haven't seen as much of the real Wales as I have on my treks (and I have seen only a small amount really). 95% of people don't know what it is like more than a couple of miles from their front door - away from the madding crowd! Hence my fascination with landscape photography - trying to capture the beautiful scenes and moments...

"A soul that sees beauty may sometimes walk alone." — Wolfgang von Goethe

"I never saw an ugly thing in my life: for let the form of an object be what it may - light, shade, and perspective will always make it beautiful. "
John Constable

"In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous."
Aristotle

    road triper says:

"Photography for me, is about how a photo makes me FEEL. Most of my comments lack the "way to go" element and instead describe my emotional response the photographer captured in the single, isolated frame. AJ Scapes' photography is of a particularly powerful emotional charge. I cannot view them and NOT feel something. Sometimes soothing, sometimes stimulating, but always, always powerful. Heady stuff. Gazing into his landscapes makes me want to write poetry!"
