I'm an architectural historian and writer. My first book, How to Read Buildings: A Crash Course in Architecture (2008) had lots of images, but none of them taken by me. The next one, England's Churches (History Press, forthcoming 2012), will, I hope, have lots of pictures by me!

I've always enjoyed photography, and am having a great time with my lovely new Canon 5D Mk II, though I still use my trusty little Powershot as the 5d is way too big for my handbag. Time for a bigger handbag, maybe?

Things I'm interested in:
-- churches and church architecture
-- light, especially strong slanting light and backlight
-- exploring taking black and white images in full colour (a college photography class assignment I didn't get quite right at the time that has intrigued me ever since).
