Geekstalt's photostream
|
Thank you for checking out my profile and my pictures.
My name is Dave and I live in Canada's national capital of Ottawa, Ontario.
I've been into photography since I was in my teens, and purchase an SLR back out of university. I used that camera for over 10 years before time finally wore it out (still have it, but it needs cleaning and repair). Almost 2 years ago I was offered the opportunity to do some travel with work, so I decided to replace my old SLR with a new DSLR and purchased a Nikon D40x. It was a welcome return to the world of photography, and I could do so much more with the D40x than ever I had with my old Yashica! Easily within the first year I shot 30,000 captures!
Then just over a year ago I discovered Flickr. Through it I've seen fantastic shots, and learned so much about photography. More than that, I've met a lot of people and made great friends here.
Primarily, now, I'm moving forward on doing digital artwork and working with models. I still do photography, though. My photography tends to be of landscapes, sunsets, marcos and architectural studies. A lot of my work is in HDR.
MY ACCOUNT NAME
My account name is a combination of two words:
- "Die Gestalt" is a German word for form or shape. It is used in English to refer to a concept of 'wholeness'. - Wikipedia
- Geek is 'a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, gaming, etc.' - Dictionary.com-Merriam-Webster entry
So "Geekstalt" - a geek who is overly obsessed with photographing the world's wholeness... from a Geek point of view.
NOTE FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO BE CONTACTS:
I like Contacts. Contacts are cool. Some of my best Flickr-friends are Contacts. If you're reading this, you are probably not a Contact. Wanna be a Contact? Only three things required:
1/Contact me
2/ Leave some comments on my photos and/or Flickrmail me
3/ Repeat step 2.
I promise I'll do the same in response. I like making friends and talking with them, so that's why I like Flickr.

"David has a great talent for describing a situation. By photo and by a story "behind". He knows how to use the right treatment for a specific situation. And he shares his knowledge with us. There is no secret and always a "making of". I very much appreciate that. David has also a great talent for telling a story. I always enjoy his way of telling what happened. I hope his photos will be watched by as many people as possible."

"I will try and keep this short and simple, which is not an easy thing for me to do!
The thing other than his creativity and great imagination with his photos, which are marvelous by the way, that caught my attention with Dave, was is amazing way of capturing me with his words.
As I am a pretty wordy person myself, I appreciated his way of expressing himself verbally as well as through his photographs.
Everyone has a story to tell, and I pesonally like that!
And I like him.
If you want a good friend on Flickr, not just a good contact but a GOOD FRIEND! Dave is you man! Plus you get to go along with him on his visual and verbal adventures and it is such a pleasure!
Great Guy this Geekstalt!
Proud to call him friend, and he makes me laugh!

mofmann says:
"Like so many others, I find checking every single one of my contacts every single day rather impossible. To be frank, I rarely have the time to do so these days. However, Dave (Geekstalt) always has me dropping by... And there's a reason - well, actually, there are several reasons.
Naturally, Dave is one of the kindest and friendliest flickerites around. He comments extensively, encourages you, and provides excellent feedback. He's also quite humorous and never shy to offer you his virtual support.
What's more, though, Dave loves to experiment with his photography. As an audience, we get to experience his growth and his learning - and we never know what we will see next. There are many photographers who have honed that one skill and to a degree, they are predictable. Dave, on the other hand, is full of surprises - and I love to be surprised.
In other words, it is difficult (if not impossible) to get bored with Dave's photostream. I am sure that like me, you will find it challenging to stay away...
Go ahead, browse Dave's stream - it's a rewarding experience!"2nd February, 2009

"I love how you capture the world around. Your photos fill me with joy and I learn a little bit more about how to see with every great photo. He also is a great Flick-friend.

BR-i (www.brianrobertsimages.com) says:
"Dave takes such wonderful images, I always look out for his pictures and really enjoy viewing them.
His sunset images are especially beautiful and he's got a great eye for a landscape shot. The pictures he took on the Queen Mary are an expecially strong piece of documentary work.
Keep up the excellent work Dave and looking forward to seeing more of your photographs in the near future."2nd January, 2009

Dave the Haligonian says:
"Wow, I'm the first to leave a testimonial for David?!
Well, I am honoured to do so!
David is one of the nicest people I have encountered on Flickr. He is always willing to help out a fellow flickr friend by providing his suggestions, friendly humourous comments and genuine good cheer!
Yes, David is one of the "good" guys!
David is also quite talented in the picture taking department and is always striving to learn new things and openly encourages input and criticism to help him improve his skills. This is also quite evident in his photostream as each photo he posts is better than the last! And trust me, that is saying something!
Take care David, I always look forward to your new stuff and thank you for being such a great friend!"20th October, 2008
