I have had an on/off relationship with photography for most of my life, but it is only in the last 5 years that I have taken it more seriously. My wife Kate, and I met a guy called Tony Potter, who in turn introduced us to a group he co-founded - West Cumbria Photo Group, a bunch of passionate and skilled photographers.

With their encouragement and guidance we have both learned the skills to create a good image. However, it's like passing your driving test, which in my opinion only serves to qualify you as a vehicle operator. It then takes many years of dedication and practice to become a driver. So it is with photography. Only through years of practice and dogged determination to create something of beauty can we expect to become good photographers.

This is the journey which we have now embarked upon. It is exciting, engaging and now consumes most of my time in one form or another.

I have become heavily involved in organizing and judging international exhibitions, building photographic websites, and In October 2010, I was appointed as the UK Region Director (region 28) for the Photographic Society of America (PSA).

And the future? There is much for me to learn, and I hope photography will occupy much of the rest of my life.
