I am a 58 year old man whose main interests are music,photography, reading and technology. I am an IT consultant 'by trade' and although I am quite into computing I also like more creative pursuits hence my interest in music and photography. I have a MySpace presence that reflects my musical interests whereas flickr and panaramio will be reflecting my interests in photography. Nearly all my photos can be grouped into 4 locations namely Bristol,Cornwall, Colwyn Bay (in North Wales where I now reside) and Portrush in Northern Ireland where I worked from 1996 to 1998.
As far as cameras go I have stayed loyal to my first 'love' which was a Pentax ME Super which I purchased 2nd hand from a lady friend of mine in 1983 - that particular camera was ruined (seawater!)about 4 or 5 years later when I got too close to some waves I was photographing on a Cornish beach! I bought another Pentax ME Super with an identical lens etc in the mid 90's shortly before I started working in N. Ireland. This covered a period from 1996 to 1998 and most photos were taken in Portrush. After I returned from Portrush I stopped photography altogether until fairly recently when I started experimenting with the 2 megapixel camera that came with my new skype enabled mobile phone "3Skypephone" (I have friends and family scattered over the globe so being able to use Skype with and without a computer is a boon and a blessing to my wallet!!) - anyway when I saw the results with this simple built in digital 'point and shoot' device I was quite impressed with the quality - but I know I could get better results still if I used an SLR. My first reaction was to follow the trend and go and buy a DSLR - it would certainly be a more 'convenient' technology for obvious reasons (i.e. no film to process etc). So I had a fight with my heart and my head and it seems my 'heart' won out to the extent that I have now bought ANOTHER Pentax ME Super off E-Bay for a song!! This 'new' Pentax comes with a Tokina 28 to 70mm f3.5 'macro' zoom lens which provides an alternative to the 50mm f1.7 Pentax lens on my existing camera. At the moment I haven't done much photography with my Pentax's as I have been spending most of my spare time scanning and uploading my current collection. Expect to see more recent photos with the SLR in the coming months but to be honest I don't know how long I will be able to hold out against the temptation to make life a lot easier by going the whole hog and upgrading to a DSLR - watch this space!
Update: I have now bought one of the new 35mm format Holga cameras the Holga 135BC also since I last updated my profile I have bought another 15 film cameras off ebay (as a job lot) some I may use for TTV experiments and the rest I will probably sell off or scrap if they are not worth restoring. Finally I have bought another digital camera the Olympus C350 which is basically a point and shoot job with a few bells and whistles.
As for my 'philosophy' with regards to photography and digital manipulations well that is easy to answer because it is simply to give pleasure via the visual cortex.
