A note from Trenton M. -

In order to understand my art it helps to have a little background about its style. Lowbrow art, also called Pop Surrealism, describes an underground art movement that arose in Los Angeles, California in the late 1970s. Lowbrow is like the child of comic books, music, street and pop culture, toys and cartoons. The best way I’ve heard it described was “cartoon-tainted abstract surrealism.” Most Lowbrow art often has a sense of humor. Sometimes the humor is gleeful, sometimes impish, sarcastic, or even dark.

Most of my characters, at this moment in time, are cartoony robots with a dark sort of creepy/cute feel about them and an antique texture. Although they are usually portraits of robots I don’t always see them as that. I see them as my means to express my feelings and thoughts. Not only that but I also see their creation as my opportunity to respond and question my own life, love, relationships, and the lives of others that I observe in society.
