For a small collection of my favourite photographs, please look at this set.

Photography has been a hobby of mine for over ten years, although it has only really been in the last few years that I've really started to improve (one of these days I'll buy a scanner for all my old photos and I'll prove it). I put this rapid improvement down to the ease and cost (or lack thereof) of digital photography and this brilliant website - I am constantly amazed by the wealth of inspiration I see here everyday, and for that I must thank you all!

My photography is eclectic, as are my influences, and I am always interested in broadening my style. In fact one of the benefits of being an amateur is that you can constantly experiment and get feedback on new ideas and styles without feeling embarrassed when it goes a bit wrong!

Some photographers will take their time with each individual photo; some photographers will take as many shots as they can and then spend time sifting through them later on. I think am very much a member of this latter group, in fact occasionally I won't even bother to look through the viewfinder! Some would argue that this style of photography is more haphazard and requires less skill, but then I am a firm believer that all human creativity works by a Darwinian process of "generate and test", so I suppose that you could say I just like to project this creative processing onto the equipment I use. And besides, the most important thing with photography is to have fun, and that is definitely something I do right.

My equipment:
* Canon 5D
* 17-40mm f4
* 24-70mm f2.8
* 35mm f1.4
* 50mm f1.2
* 50mm f1.8
* 85mm f1.8
* 580EX II and 430EX flashes
* ST-E2 transmitter
* Manfrotto 725b
* Manfrotto 190XPROB with 486RC2 ball-head

    "I have been meaning to write a testimonial about Jon for a while. In short he is a scientist who makes great art through searching, experimenting and refining. I always get the sense that a lot of thought has gone into his images and he is always generous in sharing the secrets. He is also a Gooner - which is important. Great set of photos and top bloke."

    "Jon's searching eye sees astonishing beauty everywhere he goes. People and places captured with light in all it's infinte glory; composed with geometry of the most dynamic sort. This renaissance-man is a bloody good artist, a prodigious-virtouso. That and a lovely chap to boot.

    Big love to you big Jon."

    "I've been a great fan of Jon's work for some time now, despite his "casual/hobbyist" moniker his work shows signs of real professionalism. Never one to be tied down to a particular genre or style, he's always impressing us with new images and techniques. And unlike many others on flickr, always willing to share his secret as well, a real credit to the community.

    Already on display at the Tate (:p) I wouldn't be surprised to see more of Jon's work being published soon, as he seems to take great pride in his photographs and it shows. Along with his stunning and willing model Faye he's produced some of my all time favourites on flickr, and you should take the time to visit his photostream and take a look at such classics as "Waiting for the Seaplane", "Blue Wheels", "Fay (although there are many, all of which are superb" and "St. Pauls" to name but a few.

    It's always a pleasure seeing Jon's latest images, even if they do make me a little envious of his talent, keep 'em coming Jon :)"

    "Jon's attention to detail is equalled by very few photographers out there. His work is quiet, compelling, and technically excellent, while retaining a desire to improve his craft. Jon's photostream is deep and becoming deeper by the day. Check back often and try not to strain your favouriting finger."

    "Yes I agree with Sam, Jon is a great guy. He is very generous. And intelligent. And funny. And takes cool photographs. And makes fatastic websites. But he would be like the complete top dog if he would stop mentioning the fact that I leave my mess lying around the house..."

    "Oh man! Jon just rules. Yes! And then some. He's just about the tallest guy ever in the whole wide world and there's a real peace and love about him that just should be like spread out to the rest of the whole world so it can become a better place as well and it's so neat to know him that I just can't explain, I'm crying even as I type this. Thank you Jon! Thank you! THANK YOU!"
