I enjoy photography and the challenge of finding the best angle, light and composition.
I've been out of the photo world most of the last six years and I'm trying to climb back into it as a career. After spending 17 years as a staff and freelance photojournalist with two local newspapers (Cecil Whig 5 years and 12 years freelancing at the Delaware's News Journal), as well as freelancing for USA Today, Chicago Tribune, Associated Press etc., I hope to regain that desire to get back in the drivers seat and go at it again.
As a kid, my dad had a subscription to the News Journal ( www.delawareonline.com ) and I would often see photos by Fred Comegys, Bob Herbert and Chuck McGowan. All great photographers then and now. Fred's book, Delaware Close To Home (1988), always inspired me when I would be in a funk while working with the Whig. He was also my feature photography instructor in college which was at the time like training from Picasso. His son Butch Comegys, a staffer for the Times Tribune in Scranton, Pennsylvania, ( www.scrantontimes.com ) is equally talented and someone I had the pleasure of working with at the Whig back in the late 1980's.
When I noticed Flickr mentioned by photog Matthew Clark in Jan/Feb 2008 issue of PC Photo, I want to expand my horizons and perspective and to learn as much as I can.
In case your wondering, I don't usually use last names or ages since these pictures are public here on the internet.
I've changed my profile name because I want to give a photojournalistic theme here even though you wouldn't see some of these pics in a daily newspaper. Only one of them has, (Where There's Smoke) but for the Bill Hughes Gazette they all are.
Update; Unless things fall through at the printers, I'll be seeing my new pics in the debut of the Cecil Guardian weekly and the local Cecil Connections magazine on December 3, 2009.
The publisher and staff are super to work with and I look forward to this new venture.
