"Put simply, Ian is an inspiration, as much for his interest in history as for what he does with his camera. His photostream is a treasure trove of long-forgotten events, including a plethora of stories relating to military plane crash sites. More often than not these are in remote upland areas of Britain and the effort that Ian and his mate Paul go to in order to rediscover these lost pieces of our history, and to leave fitting memorials to the brave airmen who all too frequently lost their lives, is admiral. But it doesn't stop there, as his painstaking research bring the events surrounding these crashes to life, providing fascinating, if heart-breaking, insights into what happened. Keep an eye open for his composites of old and new..... for instance pictures of WWII bombs among the houses of today, placed as near as possible to their actual location. It is all fascinating stuff.....

Have a look at his top-notch photostream.... you'll learn something and meet a great guy!"

    "what can i say?
    my first flickr crush!
not only is he good looking, but he is a man of good heart.

... this extends to good intent and good action with - tribute crosses and red poppies across the countryside, stories found and shared, and a brilliant cataloging of history. that this is all sourced and motivated by a deep respect for those who gave their lives for our freedom easily elevates Ian to Saint status in my view. if that can be topped off, he is also a super nice guy and valued flickr friend. thanks Ian, people like you make the world a better place."

"Ians photosteam is a great mixture of stunning images together with well researched and detailed historical facts. By definition most of the of crash sites photographed are in remote areas and gives us couch potatoes an opportunity to see them without the associated effort of hauling our kit cross country - long may it continue !"

"I stumbled across Ian's photostream quite by chance, but I quickly found that his postings opened up a completely new dimension for me. I've learned more about the hazards of flying than I could ever have imagined when I first joined Flickr.

What impresses me above all, apart from Ian's sheer dedication in seeking out the sites - which are because of their very nature in remote places - is the quality and detail of his research. Each picture is accompanied by a paragraph or two which draws out the drama and human interest.

    Well done!"

"I first noticed Ian's photostream by accident ...a wreckage shot caught my eye .... It was to be a life changing event . The aircraft bug was caught and since then Ian has become as strong a friend as I have ever had.
His photography is always innovative [you try taking pictures of aircraft fragments on a dull day, on a featureless flat moor and see how hard it is :-)] and his comments are always thought through and worthwhile .
He is honourable ,tustworthy and sincere ., a human being of the first order.
I think , a traveller at heart.... he should write a book about his wanderings .....his stories never cease to amaze me.
Keep up the good work Ian ."

"I've enjoyed Ians wanderings across the peaty Northern Moors to record the rusting remains of crashed aircraft. His stream brings to life many a sad, tragic or often couragous story of bad luck, bad weather or bad judgement.I'd never really considered this aspect of landscape history before discovering Ians wanderings. As a contact on flickr Ian always has time for some considered commenting and really does embrace the best of flickr."
