Inspired by clean lines, whimsical shapes, and an urban aesthetic, Pansy Maiden subscribes to a "less is more" philosophy. My mission is to create attractive, sustainable, cruelty-free bags in a socially responsible manner.

Working out of my home-based studio in Medford, MA, I have total control over the quality of my handmade bags. With the assistance of my reliable Juki industrial sewing machine, I build my bags to be dainty yet durable, funky yet functional, using a number of advanced sewing techniques I've picked up along the way.

I wrap myself into every single aspect of Pansy Maiden so I want my bags to be a reflection of my personal values. I believe that all things connect—the way we treat animals, the way we treat our Earth, the way we treat each other—it all connects. If we are considerate and make efforts to treat all three with the utmost respect, our world will be a healthier and all-around better place to live. I really believe that. Which is why I choose to run my business in the same manner I live my life: Cruelty-free. So, what makes a bag cruelty-free? (Did I read your mind? ;)

I believe materials made with animal products are completely unsustainable. I will never use leather, wool, or silk to build my bags, and I wash my fabric using a plant-based, ecofriendly detergent. When glue is called for, I use an animal-derivative-free brand. The mills where my fabrics are sourced abide by Fair Trade regulations, are GOTS and SKLA certified, and the dyes they use are plant-based, non-sulfur dyes (no harmful chemical run-off). I work mainly with organic, reclaimed or vintage material and donate all my scraps to local art programs and/or artists.
