I'm Scottish and moved to France about 20 years ago. My boyfriend Fabrice is French and has lived in our village all his life.

We run an Angora goat and sheep farm and keep pigs, chickens and other livestock. We're living in a the first part of our self build house and still building an extension which is taking ages. We're off grid and produce all the food we need but we do sometimes buy food - especially exotic fruit and chocolate !

We have an open farm - visitors are welcome and if we've time, we'll show you round. We have a lot of guests who come here to learn about smallholding, self-sufficiency, foraging, off-grid living etc. (Everything that we do really !) That helps to supplement our farming income and we meet some great new people.

I'm passionate about living simply, I always have been. I did a permaculture course in the early 80s and a lot of what I heard and have found out about since, such using renewable resources, gardening, animal welfare, building and making things, sharing resources and so on comes under the Permaculture 'umbrella'. Fabrice has always lived the way we do. He is a great builder, singer, gamekeeper and registered trapper and a responsible hunter. He speaks good English, but computers don't do anything for him at all.

The magic of the internet means that I can share what we're doing and find out what you're up to too, without having to leave home - which I can't do often because of our animals and to honest I don't really want to anyway because it's so nice here.

If you've had time to look through some of my photographs, you know a lot about me already !

"Seeing hardworkinghippy's photos is inspiring, I am amazed at how truly hardworking she is. As I try to manage and cultivate my dream of being an organic farmer here in California, she is doing it in real time half a world away. Thank you for your photos."
