A 65 + year old "Old Fart"with a great family that is close but independent as hell.

First camera to call my own:
A Kodac Instamatic 100 given to me by Mom and Dad before my trip to Europe in 1963. With fixed shutter speed,aperture, and focus the difference between a "Good" photo and a "Bad" photo was how you composed it. For a kid with little or no interest in detail,the camera was perfect. It took surprising good slides that were square in format and it was easy to load since its film came in a canister. I guess you could call them the first of the "Point and Shoot" cameras.
My set titled "Europe 1964"contains only a few of the several hundred photos I took on this first adventure to see the world.

First SLR/35MM camera:
A Canon Pelix with a 58mm/1.2 lens purchased (with my poker winnings) at the Navy Base store in Sasebo Japan in 1966. With its 1.2 lens you could really take great pictures in low light without a flash. Quite it was Not. You could hear the mirror drop from near 50 feet. Light it was Not (3lbs-2oz).
BUT-the photos were SPECTACULAR when you got all the settings correct.
After the pellix I purchased many different brands including Konica,Nikon,Pentax and Olympus all having features I though I could not live without.

First Digital camera:
An Olympus Model C-765 Ultra Zoom. This 4 megapixel unit with its 10X lens was a perfect fit to the top opening in my chest type fishing creel. I always wanted a camera to take along on ALL my fly fishing excursions. Take it along I did. In most of my fly fishing journals, this camera was the "Producer".

Present wanna be SLDR camera:
Panosonic Lumix DMC-FZ20. This puppy, which was bought in the fleet shop in Hong Kong by a good friend, is my work horse.

Present pocket Digital camera:
An Olympus, Stylus Tough, 6000, 10mp that is waterproof to 10 feet,and so far, indestructible. I have it strapped around my neck and keep it in my shirt pocket when fishing.
Funny how things always seem to go back to the "Way They Were". Now I am old fart that has little interest in detail and want a camera that all I have to do is to point it and shoot. I am now back to concentrating on the pictures composition.

My newest challenge is ink and watercolor sketches for my journals. For a fellow that has written off detail why am I doing this?
