I think my experience on Flickr is a very common one. I hadn't even heard of the site until April '08, and I joined just to store/share some photos I had taken during a holiday in South Africa in '07. I had little or no interest in photography, apart from taking holiday snapshots. After browsing through some of the images and groups here, I quickly became addicted and motivated to try to create new shots and learn and improve my photography. I really don't even know the basics, but I hope I'm learning slowly. Enjoy!

Update!
I was 'tagged' recently (January '09) for 16 things about myself, so under protest, this is it:

1. I hadn’t heard of Flickr twelve months ago. I originally joined simply to use it as storage for some holiday snaps. If somebody had told me twelve months ago that I would be driving to places specifically to take pictures to post them on the internet, I would have said that they were crazy.

2. Ref #1: I would have said that I was crazy.

3. I live in Cork on the south coast of Ireland, but am originally from Wexford in the
South-East, about 2.5 hours drive away.

4. I spent some time globe-trotting when I was younger – I have a lot of photos (prints) from that period, but I haven’t looked at them in years.

5. Ref #4: The vast majority of those photos are probably crap.

6. Fortunately, I’m under 40. Unfortunately, I’m over 30.

7. If I won the lottery, I’d buy apartments in Cape Town, Sydney and New York, and spend my time between them and Ireland, depending on the weather!

8. I shook hands with Bill Clinton while he was still President of the USA.

9. I’m hopeful that Barack Obama may bring about ‘change’. I’m fearful that he may not.

10. I’m a big folk music fan. Here’s Ronnie Drew from 2006:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HADrur85Eg
RIP Ronnie.

11. My hair colour is dark brown, not red. Red hair is not exceptionally common in Ireland, despite what the movies may have you believe!
I don’t have any grey hairs yet – it’s “just the way the light catches it”.
:-)

12. I used to smoke 50+ cigarettes a day, but I haven’t smoked in over three years.
Now I’m one of those annoying, smug ex-smokers, who think that everybody else should be able to give them up too.

13. I’d love to write a fictional novel (even an ‘airport paperback’) but have never even attempted to write the first line (a resolution for 2009!).

14. If you’re buying, I’ll have a Budweiser.

15. A photo of a flower can occasionally be nice.
A photo of a pet can occasionally be nice.
A photostream made up exclusively of flowers or pets,.……………

16. I have a fondness for viewing pictures of landscapes, seascapes/water, bright colours, and tasteful female self-portraits.
:-)
