Historically, after taking a BIG stupid detour away from creativity toward more sensible pursuits like college and career, I came back to art when I started fighting for artist's rights with the Free Speech Coalition Kansas City, and then came poetry, sketchbooking and zine-ing again. I keep a gig at the Kansas City Art Institute and make mixmed stitch full time (thanks to the patronage of my Professor husband -- who often believes in me more than I do ;0}.)
Most days, I like floss and fiber embroidery over watercolor or acrylic on unbleached muslin, though I work in paper and metal too. I choose mostly nature subjects from my gardens, but with some Freedom of Stitch twist--like when plants fight back! Ultimately, I think all media should mix and be 3D about it.
Also, Currently, I am developing some more Fearless Stitcher materials for classes & workshops, and a teaching series of mixed media stitch projects.
i'm most excited about the Sinister Stitch Chronicles: a documentary of Conjuring Wicked Poisons in Mixed Media Embroidery. # SinisterStitchDiary

I am continually working on a how-to book of collected projects for adventurous mixed media types which includes a history of how women of stitch have used their embroideries in social or political statements -- Putting Needles on the Record *wink*.
