  Your statement that you know very little about photography is a great UNDERstatement ;-) . We should not de-value our own skills by trying to imitate others, or by striving to technical perfection. Our photos is how WE see the world, and should not be how we think other want them to see. Also Andreas Feininger, whose work I admire, said once: "A technically perfect photograph can be the world's most boring picture."
