I live in beautiful Ipswich, Massachusetts. We moved from Scottsdale, Arizona in June 2009, and I am LOVING the big change. The desert is no place for human beings.

About Belarus. I fell in love with the country in 1992 (don't ask me why, there's no explaining love) and have traveled back there almost every year since. A lot of my "serious" work is done in the "Chernobyl Zone" near the southern border with Ukraine. The deterioration of the abandonded villages and settlements saddens but fascinates me. I would also like to be able to explore "living" villages in this way, but people don't usually like foreigners poking around and photographing their houses -- I know I certainly wouldn't! So I continue to go to Minsk, drive to Bragin, and enter the Zone. It's a surreal place.

I also like making "pretty" pictures, but I always reach for emotion. A photo that doesn't pull some sort of emotion from me isn't one I will keep.
