The Digital Media Masters of Research course will undertake its inaugural semester in September 2008.Modules will be taught between Culture Lab the Fine Art facilities. Research projects will take place in Culture Lab. Students will have a “virtual studio” on a laptop, allowing them to work across different sites.

The Masters of Digital Media is a practice-based course in new media theory, interactive
technologies, and media art practice. Further aims:

• To encourage the development of critical and original approaches to considering digital media, and to provide a framework within which students are prepared for further academic research.
• To prepare students to apply theoretical knowledge to the use of state-of-the-art resources for conception, development, production, and presentation of innovative interactive digital media works.
• To prepare students with interdisciplinary skills and a culture of collaboration to gainfully find employment in the technology-driven creative sectors.

The Masters will be offered as a full time (1 year) or part time (2 years) modes of study. We expect interest from people already working in creative sectors to pursue study part time while working. This will bring to the programme mature students with real-world project ideas. It is expected that graduating students continue in the field – as artists, in doctoral study, and in significant posts in the creative sector.
