Hmmm.....what to say. I grew up in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, an industrial town, where Lake Superior tails out and Lake Huron begins. It was a great town to grow up in; friendly people, beautiful scenery, and a gateway to God's Country.
Travel north from the Sault, and immediately experience sensory overload even before you venture outside of the city limits. Sugar maples that light up the highway in the fall with their crimson and orange hues. Large outcroppings of granite hundreds of feet high are home to majestic white and red pines, their shapes contorted by the prevailing winds. The roots exposed over the rocks as they struggle to maintain a foothold. Growing ever so slowly, the result of soil depravation, some take on the resemblance of a well-sculpted bonsai.
And then there is the lake. The largest freshwater lake in the world; Lake Superior. To say it is beautiful is an understatement, to say it is nice is an insult. This body of water creates it's own weather systems, has provided food and transport routes for countless generations, and is the home to countless species of fish and animals. The waters are cold and clear, the Eastern shoreline is unique. The landscape is a victim of its own environment. Rivers here run fast and furious in their final descent to the lake. The Canadian shield is as rugged as the people who call this area home.
Circumstances change in life. Although I no longer live near the lake, I will always consider the Sault and Superior my home. This is where I grew up, this is where I learned to respect and admire nature, and this is where my heart will always be. It is so apparent, the profound and lasting impact this area has had on myself. I look so forward to visiting the area, and getting back to my roots. I yearn for this area when I am away, and when I am there, I soak in every minute that I can.
What do I hope to get from Flickr ? I truly hope to build a base of quality contacts. Contacts who appreciate what is out there. Contacts who can capture a decent shot without editing it to death on Photoshop. But maybe more than anything, sincere people who are passionate about the outdoors and photography.
That's it for now, look forward to meeting new people, and enjoying the amazing shots so many people post.....take care........

nature_photonutt (Sue) says:
"Sean has a real feel for Northern Ontario and his images capture the mood and uniqueness of this rugged land. He goes to great lengths to get interesting and unusual images. His photographs are both very artistic and captivating. Many of his images are reminisant of the "Group of Seven" a group of Canadian artists who painted in Northern Ontario. He also has travelled throughout the region and knows many spots of interest. Sean has become a friend and having met him, I must say that he is funny and very down to earth. Having him as a flickr contact and a friend has been a wonderful bonus to becoming involved with flickr. If you have Sean as a contact , consider yourself lucky! Sue"

these are only words says:
"Sean is one of the first contacts that I made on Flickr and he is one of the most gifted and giving people that I have met here. I love his sense of humour and his warm-hearted gift of gab. He has been more than generous with his constructive advice; In fact, I've learned some of my most useful techniques through him - thank you.
His artistic eye for seeing the unseen in nature is a rare gem. He has produced some of the most gorgeous sunrises, sunsets, and water shots that I've seen.
And I can't close without saying that his descriptions are always a pleasure to read. He always takes the time to describe the moment, even if it involves a bit too much detail...haha. My favourite still has to be this one:
"prancing around the front yard like a fairy in heat trying to get macro shots...the patrons at the Red Neck Bar next door are mumbling about the big Irish kid with all the tattoos that just moved in. F**k em I say. It's my yard, and if want to run around in my boxers and slippers, it's my perogative :) I don't know what the name of this flower is.....but it's yellow."
I'm so grateful to have met you Sean, keep the good times rollin'."31st October, 2008
