I am a Caucasian American learning Mandarin Chinese. I can generally hold a short conversation in Mandarin, perhaps longer depending on the subject. I am also fluent in Spanish and, of course, English, but the rest of my family is monolingual. I enjoy listening to Mandarin songs, especially Jay Chou's songs, even though my parents constantly tell me to "turn that rap junk off." They pretty much don't like anything that isn't in English, just because they don't understand the language and don't want to learn.
