I run a photography website - Someone Once Told Me.

I'm actually a journalist who has always wanted to take photographs, but never got round to it. Finally tiring of my inactivity, I picked up a camera in the autumn of 2006 and have been waving one around ever since.

What SOTM means is this - people are asked, sometimes by appointment and sometimes randomly, to hold up a large piece of paper, upon which they write something that someone once told them. Or emailed. Or texted.

Basically they must write out something that’s been communicated to them. But told, preferably.

A black and white photograph is then taken, and one such image goes up on the site every day, with the previous ones forming a gallery.

It's photography meets storytelling, with people's oral histories being captured in a visual way.

I always need volunteers, both to pose for me and to send in their own images - I'm really keen to get people's photos on the site.

Some of the ones already submitted can be seen on the SOTM Flickr group, and you can also submit them through the main site.

What did someone tell you?
