After 2 years on Flickr, I guess I can't call myself a beginner anymore, but I am still very much an amateur and still am only beginning to learn technique and technicalities. And, I'm still using a very "beginner's" camera. I'm gathering the $$$ and the courage to buy a digital SLR, the next stop for me I think.

I've long been a dabbler in art, and have enjoyed watercolor painting and graphic art. I'm a great fan of using the graphic capabilities in PowerPoint to convey messages in pictures as well as words. In my photographs, I strive to present a beautiful image, one that brings out the unique beauty that I saw in the object or scene. I do not strive for a literal representation of what I see, nor for "straight out of the camera" technical perfection. I am most pleased with an image that I can view as a work of art, or at least an attempt at creating art.

I enjoy capturing something interesting or beautiful that most people might walk right by and not notice. I enjoy interesting juxtapositions such as my theme of flower close-ups with a building in bokeh in the background. I love flowers and keep trying to capture their colors, shapes, and variety in interesting ways. I travel for work and enjoy taking pictures on my travels. I've discovered texture work and how use of textures can provide a new dimension to a photograph.

I live in Washington, DC and enjoy the challenge of trying to share interesting captures of Washington sights such as the monuments and cherry blossoms. I was privileged to be able to photograph some of the excitement surrounding Barack Obama's inauguration.

And, I so enjoy the Flickr community! I am continually amazed and gratified by the generosity, talent, and friendship of Flickr members all over the world. I love reading (or trying to read) comments in many languages and seeing sights from so many countries and cultures. I hope to keep on "Flickring" for many years to come.
