I work in a small software company. My passion is computing. I have five computers, all Macs of varying vintages and all doing a specific task.

I'm getting back into photography after leaving it behind several years ago. I failed because I got too wrapped up in the equipment and did not use what I had to get results.

I have three cameras: a Leica D-LUX 3, which I bought primarily because it was one of the only compacts that could do RAW at the time. I have a Sony DSC-U30 that is so goddam cute that I can't part with it. My third camera is the iPhone 3G, which I take a lot of photos with because it's always to hand. In terms of resolution and image quality, the iPhone and the Sony are a good match, so I'm keeping the Sony out of sentimentality.

I want to buy a Sony DSC-F828. I wanted it when it came out in 2004 but it was about $1500AUS at the time. Time has passed and I hope to pick one up secondhand for about $350AUS. I had the Sony DSC-F717 and it took great pictures because of its enormous snout lens. The F828 is the replacement. I want this camera because it is not a DSLR but provides a lot of the benefits of one, such as a good, big lens and RAW format. Again, I am trying to take interesting pictures and am striving to avoid the equipment trap that caught me in the past.
