The Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) is the cultural and public affairs section of the Embassy of Japan in Washington D.C. Our primary role is to promote better understanding of Japan and Japanese culture by providing a wide range of information, educational services and programs to the public. We are committed to fostering friendship and promoting mutual understanding between Japan and the United States.
The JICC is located on the lower level of the glass-enclosed Galleria at Lafayette Center III in downtown Washington DC. Its facilities include a research library, a 152-seat auditorium and a 1,500 square-foot exhibition gallery. Throughout the year we host a number of Japan-related films, lectures, performances and exhibitions.
JICC Services
Printed Materials
The JICC distributes booklets, magazines and pamphlets covering aspects of Japanese life and culture. We also supply educational materials such as maps, posters, booklets and brochures. We have a variety of tourist information for those interested in traveling to Japan.
Loan Items
The JICC has flags of Japan, documentary and cultural films on DVD and VHS, and Happi or traditional Japanese festival coats available for loan. Items must be picked up and returned in person and require a refundable deposit.
Japan Now Newsletter
JICC publishes a bimonthly email newsletter, Japan Now. Japanese politics, culture and JICC events are all covered. Many distinguished guest writers from all over the world have been published in Japan Now.
Lectures/Performances
Throughout the year the JICC hosts a number of lectures and performances. These include our “Voice of the Author Series”, featuring authors of recent Japan-related books and the “J-Film Series”, a monthly showcase of new and old Japanese films. The JICC also co-sponsors events with other institutions.
Publications
The JICC distributes a number of Japan themed publications, including: Japan Echo, Gaiko Forum, Nipponia, and Infomap Japan.
