Shadow becomes White's photostream  

"Shadow becomes White" is my codename in the photographic community. My real name is Rajat Chadda.

Why the name "Shadow becomes White" ?

One of the things common between human beings apart from the colour of blood is the colour of their shadow. Metaphorically speaking, I believe adding the colour white (or adding light) to the shadow makes the being of the human distinct.

My exposure to Photography goes back to the year 2000, when I signed up, on a whim, for a weekend course in Photographing Still Life. The teacher was a director of an advertising firm turned self-taught-photographer - Anand Sharan. He is now world-renowned and is a coveted member of New York School of Photography - not everyone has that privilege.

In a 2 day course, I spent long hours looking at 5,000 photographs, from the world's best photographers, projected on a huge wall in a dark theater. Marveling at every detail made me realize the value of image. And almost every time, I took a break to come out under the open sky, I felt I had no eyes but lenses in my sockets! My brain slowed down visual processing to an action replay setting. It was inspiring at a whole new level and a feeling I've rarely felt in my life.

But it was not until 2008, that I stumbled upon my boss' photographic work (who's a genius in whatever you can think of) and bought myself a Pentax K10D.

Since then its been a passion to constantly look for inspiration and improve with each album I shoot. Unlike photographers who work to perfect 1 technique or style, I try almost whatever I lay my eyes on.

Apart from shooting landscapes digitally, I am currently experimenting with pinhole based medium format photography, portrait photography as well as 35mm film photography. I really like combining human elements with nature/landscapes.

Ultimately, I'd like to move to fusing photography with other forms of art like mixed media art, optical illusory techniques etc.
