I have recently decided to use a traceable watermark to protect my images. This is not the watermark you can see. It is invisible, and can only be detected with a Digimarc application. You cannot tell which images are watermarked in this way simply by looking at them. Please do not test this.









I am a musician, conductor, and teacher... and am increasingly seeing myself as a photographer too.

Lately, I have been thinking of my landscape photography as it relates to musical interpretation. I always try to represent the landscape as faithfully as I can just as I would the will of a great composer.

In music, it is possible to interpret the written page in many ways... but it is also possible to distort the original meaning. I think the same thing can be said for landscape photography. Digital Darkroom techniques are powerful, but they should serve the scene rather than overwhelm it. In the same sense, musical technique is only a tool to reach a goal with, and should rarely be more obvious than the musical meaning. This is a difficult thing to balance in both arts. We fail when the technique becomes obvious.

Please don't hesitate to tell me if you think any of my work fails to meet this standard! Critical thought is part of the learning process!

My goal in posting to Flickr is to maybe inspire you to visit some of the same beautiful places that have nourished my soul... and to learn from the work of others too.
