I have dabbled with photography since I was a boy. My first Kodak Instamatic X-15 was a wonderful birthday present . . . when I could afford the film and processing (and don't forget the flash cubes).

Then I had a Pentax ME in high school . . . not much adjustability, so you had better capture what you wanted through composition. I remember vividly my mother's distress when I would get back a roll of 36 shots and toss 33 of them in the garbage.

As I take more photos, I have been impressed by the subjectivity of photography. And let's all be perfectly honest . . . while we appreciate feedback and suggestions from family, friends, and Flickrites, it's all about me! It's about me sharing my vision and my perspective . . . my failures and my successes . . . and ultimately, my growth as a photographer. (ROTFLMAO right now, and while that rant may be "over-the-top" you know there's a kernel of truth there . . . otherwise you wouldn't be shooting so many photos and you wouldn't put yourself and your work out there for the whole world to see!)

I recently added an Olympus E-620 to the E-410 in my bag. I think they will complement each other very nicely. While I covet some of the lenses many of you shoot with, I am committed to traveling light and cheap, and I will see how far these kit lenses will take me.

I've heard it said that in the end you will regret the things you chose not to try much more than you will regret the mistakes you have made in your life. I am beginning to understand that, and hope to express that photographically!

I am painfully aware that I do not have the time and energy to give all of my Flickr Friends and Contacts the amount of feedback that I would like to give. I considered culling the lists, but that's not a good option either. So, I will beg your indulgence as I seek balance!

I have spent a tremendous amount of time looking at photographs made by many of the "great" photographers, reading about them, and reading their own words. And I firmly believe that the Flickr community is a real force for the advance of photography. I just finished reviewing a collection from a well known photographer whom I respect greatly . . . and frankly, I believe I could have put together a more impressive collection from the photostreams of my Flickr friends and contacts. I don't intend that statement as a criticism of the renowned photographer, rather I mean to say that Flickr is full of photographers with remarkable technical and artistic skills and vision.

Finally, I would like to thank my wife for her love and support. I am the luckiest man on the planet.
