DAVID BLAKELEY

I am an award winning semi professional Landscape Photographer, who specialises in sunrise and sunset landscapes and seascapes. I have lived in Torbay almost all my life and feel very lucky to be surrounded by some of the most stunning scenery in England. It really is a photographers dream. I have been taking photographs since 2004. The majority of the locations I visit are within 15 to 20 minutes of my home. I am self taught and from the moment I captured my first good set of photographs I have been driven to better them again and again. Each photograph is a unique moment in time captured on some of the most spectacular beaches and cliffs in Devon.

My goal is to capture the wonderful South Devon coastline in a way not usually seen. By shooting the stunning light conditions that occur at both sunrise and sunset, I am able to capture pictures of well known locations in a different way. My inspiration comes from both the glorious views and the ever changing light of this part of Devon. Although the well known landmarks will always be a draw for a photographer, I also seek out the small secluded coves and beaches.

I spend time at art and craft events around the region and people often say to me "after looking at your pictures I fell in love with Devon" and "what a great place to live you are very lucky to have all this on your doorstep". I am fully aware of what a great place this part of the country is and if my photographs help promote the area I would get a great deal of satisfaction.

During my early morning's along the South Devon coastline I have seen a large array of wildlife including dolphin's, seal's, deer, fox, badger's, Heron's, Crane's and a wide variety of sea birds. However, it not always been pleasurable. I can recall falling down the sea defences at Dawlish, being stuck in the mud on the Teign Estuary, numerous soakings from waves and sea spray, falling on slippery rocks at Mansands, close encounters with bats at Hollicombe and The Ness and being chased by a large angry Ram at Hopes Nose.

Given the choice of staying in bed or getting up at 4am to take pictures, I will always choose the later. From crashing winter waves at Meadfoot Beach to a still summer dawn on the River Teign, South Devon has it all. I can't wait for my next trip out.
