Hi there! Thanks for stopping by my flickr page.

Leave a comment if you like, your comments are appreciated and welcome here. Try not to be too severe - this is not my day-job.

I'm a bit of a kook and a bit of a comic. I love to laugh, eat, drink and be happy - life is way too short to do otherwise.

This is my art; like it or not.

A small poem I wrote many years ago, goes like this:
(This poem is dedicated to the memory of my beloved Dad)

Yiasou Samaria
YIASOU SAMARIA
Fought in loneliness, a Battle so Sweet
Of days gone by on the Island of Crete.
Resilient yet restless, the Mind still in a Toss

Yawning came the Day but my Sunshine was at a Loss.
Omalos was waiting, the Samaria Gorge too
Upheld by a Promise of what I must do.

Down went the Trail, it was rocky and steep
Each step came a thought and a Memory to keep.
After a time, I began to Smile
Noting the fact I felt so Alive all the while
Nature is Beautiful, Love of Life is too,
And so is the Memory that I hold of You.

sixteen-things
16 things:

1 I love playing the game of golf; unfortunately, I'm really not a very good player… .....pretty much 'hit-n-miss' if you know what I mean.

2 I have always enjoyed drawing and I wanted to be a commercial artist in my youth.

3 I currently write construction manuals for architects, but I daydream sometimes that I will quit my job and focus on my art full time. Although, I really like a roof over my head and food in the fridge, so I will continue to write technical manuals.

4 I am an ex-smoker but still find the combined smell of coffee and cigarettes intoxicating.

5 I can not stand the smell of, or eat cantaloupe, honeydew or green melon.

6 I am a workaholic in denial.

7 I backpacked on my own through Europe for a year when I finished school. It was an amazing year and an amazing adventure and some day I hope to do it again.

8 I am a shy and private person on a social level, but assertive in a work environment.

9 My astrological sign is Scorpio.

10 I feel very connected with my surroundings when it is pouring rain.

11 Fascinated with how things work, i have always been compelled to take things apart and then reassemble them, but not always successfully….it started with things like toys, radios and TV's, and later progressed to cars and motorcycles.

12 I enjoy late night moonlit walks during freezing cold windless winter nights, alone with my thoughts and with the crunching sound and squeal of snow and ice under my feet.

13 I enjoy the outdoors and love to be near water. I love summer and everything that comes with it, except mosquitoes and humidity.

14 I don't consider myself photogenic and I hate to have my picture taken.

15 Flickr has become my alter ego and an outlet to express my artistic side.

16 I am still a big kid at heart, although, these days I tend to scare myself in the mornings while looking in the mirror and wondering, who the heck is that guy looking back at me!=)

    M.A. Wakeley says:

"As a painter who mostly looks at other paintings and drawings for inspiration, I have to say my horizons have expanded remarkably thanks to Joe's work. The more I look, the more I see, and the more I see, the more I feel. Sometimes it works the other way around where an image evokes an instant feeling that makes me take a good long look. I recommend viewing his work from the beginning of the stream up to the present to really see the evolution of his creative vision and passion, although any way is the right way. It is one of my favorite things to do. I look forward to following his work on its exciting journey....I know there is and will be much more to inspire. What a superb artist and authentic individual. I am so delighted to have had been led to this little magic patch of his special universe. You are the best, Joe. xo m.a."

"I see g_art's work as a sort of polyphony of eye. He manages to put together a lot of elements, not just abstract lines, shapes, colours, tones, etc. but also pre-existing iconographic materials which also bring into the work a meaning of their own. And every time I find it amazing how he can make it work, how he can build a sense of unity and great balance making of his single work a unique, very personal and inspiring piece of art."
