All the shots here were taken with film cameras unless otherwise stated. Basically, a bunch of nikons and older nikkormats and the like, as well as a funky Soviet 6X6 medium format and a home-made medium format pinhole camera. Everything is scanned, photoshoped (the scanning takes away from the original properties of the picture) and uploaded.
About me? Nothing much. I am a New Yorker working abroad (mostly the middle east) trying to figure it all out. If you read a good book lately or if you heard some good music recently and think I haven't heard about it- let me know as well.
If you have discovered the cure for the blues... well send that over as well.

Irene Rx (aka Kittenclaw) says:
"I feel so fortunate to have discovered Velvetart's photographs. Sometimes brutal, sometimes beautiful, but mostly somewhere richly in-between, they are documents of a land and people that need to be seen...Seen in the way that Velvetart captures them - candidly, vividly, and aesthetically; never losing sight of reality and all its inherent complexities."

Terri Lynn says:
"Velvetart takes his viewers beyond the headlines and shows them the real people, who are used as media and political pawns. He puts flesh and blood on these pawns and does so with a nonjudgmental grace that allows us to be touched in the core of our emotions, as we step into their shoes. His images elicit compassion and that is a wonderful gift to possess and share!"
