odonatah / Will return one of these days, thankYou's photostream |
Update, Sep. 2009: too many things I want to make, too little time. I have many photos to upload, but also need to get the Pro account back. At the moment I have around 1000 photos, but of course only 200 appear. So stay tuned :-)
Thank you so much everyone for helping me with IDing the animals. It's a great feeling.
Update: back from Sarawak, with some new photographs, but not as many as I hoped.
Note: I may delete your comment if you put one of those group badges / images / icons whatever it's called. Thanks.
Update: I am in San Francisco until the end of May, so it will take a while to update my stuff. I miss "my" bugs!!
----------------
This is my attempt of making a record of living things, mainly insects and fungi.
Although I'm just a begginer, and I make lots of begginer's mistakes ^_^, I will try to take this seriously as far as it is possible.
Some of the photographs may be lousy, but I will put them anyway.
I appreciate any help on identifying the species more than comments like "nice DOF!".
And I will be very happy if you show some curiosity about the subject. Making questions is more interesting than "nice DOF!" (last trend in the internet: "Nice bokeh!")
Anything is better than "nice DOF!", really.
I use Flickr tags to help the management of the species/photos, so you can also view them using this method. It's quite useful. And in my opinion, if nature photographers followed this method, IDing would be easier :-)
Before each photo name there is a number that means (species).(subject/photo). Insects, spiders, fungus etc have a different number catalogation.
Before asking where the photo was taken, please check the Tags. They usually contain: Location, Species, Ordo (Order), "Needs ID", Common name in English and Portuguese, ID up to (Genus, Familia, etc).
How do I ID the species:
1. My Contacts/Flickerers have been invaluable on helping me
2. I check my Contacts' photos by name/tag
3. I check some local/regional sites. If I don't understand the language, I use Google's translation tool (http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en ).
4. I check the small "A Guide to Common Insects in the Parks and Gardens of Singapore"
5. Sometimes, I just stumble across a photo that has a similar species
6. I check/post photos on groups, specially ID Please (http://www.flickr.com/groups/idplease/)
